You’re Invited to a Slumber Party! by ASU’s SHRC X Al Whittle Theatre

It’s classic slumber party vibes in this brand new series in collaboration with Al Whittle Theatre!

How It Started: Back in 1958, Acadia Cinema (now known as Al Whittle Theatre) screened The Pajama Game and offered free entry to those that came dressed in their PJs. The event was a huge success! Acadia students showed up in full force, including many female students, who had to sneak out of their dorms to attend! Scandal!

How It’s Going: Now, ASU’s Sexual Health Resource Centre (SHRC) and Al Whittle Theatre are teaming up to carry on this tradition with a Slumber Party series featuring all of our problematic faves. At each film, we’ll talk about the good, the bad, and the downright bizarre ways media represents relationships and sexuality. We’re kicking the series off on Wednesday, November 18th with (500) Days of Summer. Future titles and dates TBA.

Bring your questions, your thoughts, and love for movies as we engage in a fun, open, and inclusive discussion about all of our problematic faves. Together, we'll spot the red flags in (500) Days of Summer (and maybe offer some nuance while we're at it).

About the film: Tom, greeting-card writer and hopeless romantic, is caught completely off-guard when his girlfriend, Summer, suddenly dumps him. He reflects on their 500 days together to try to figure out where their love affair went sour, and in doing so, Tom rediscovers his true passions in life.

This event is open to all and Retro Admission is in effect, but tickets are only $5 for Acadia students, staff, and faculty! Buy at the door or online at www.alwhittletheatre.ca/events/500-days-of-summer

ASU’s Sexual Health Resource Centre will also be accepting at will, monetary donations to the Transformation Closet, an important nonprofit partner providing Acadia students (and all of NS) with gender affirming gear!
