Write to Your MLA in Support of Al Whittle Theatre
Arts and culture organizations in Nova Scotia, including us, need your support to ensure we are a part of Nova Scotia’s economic recovery and future.
On February 23rd, the Government of Nova Scotia released Budget 2026-27 - Defending Nova Scotia (see it here: https://novascotia.ca/budget). The provincial government has asked departments to identify 10% in spending cuts.
Al Whittle Theatre will be directly impacted, as well as every other arts and culture organization you love. Today we received a letter stating a Nova Scotia Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage grant will be reduced by 20% for the year ahead.
The arts and culture sector, the Culture Division, and Arts NS cannot withstand cuts. In 2023, the Provincial government made a vital increase to the arts and we cannot go back. The arts are a vital part of what makes Nova Scotia home.
What can you do?
Use your voice. Whether you’re a community group who hosts shows at Al Whittle Theatre, an artist who has performed on our stage, or you’re a member of this community (shareholder, volunteer, staff, donor, or audience), please take action.
