Cabaret is a musical set at the end of the 1920s in the Kit Kat Klub, a Berlin dance hall. In dialogue and song, it explores the dying embers of jazz age decadence and the emergence of the Nazi movement. The plot centres on the American writer Clifford Bradshaw's relationship with the cabaret performer Sally Bowles. A subplot involves the boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and her aborted relationship with Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor.
